Institute Membership

The Special Processes Institute brings together practitioners, managers, quality professionals and consultants dedicated to the control and continual improvement of special processes. Membership is tiered to recognise experience, responsibility and contribution to the wider community. Membership is free to valid applicants.

Associate (ASPI)

Entry-level membership for individuals working in or supporting special processes, developing their knowledge and professional network.

Member (MSPI)

Professional membership for experienced special process managers or auditors who actively contribute best practice and support the work of the Institute.

Fellow (FSPI)

A senior grade recognising those who provide leadership, subject matter expertise and strategic direction in the field of special processes.

Consultant Fellow (CFSPI)

A specialist grade for established consultants who provide recognised quality and technical advisory services in special processes.

Associate (ASPI)

Associate membership is open to anyone working in or closely supporting special processes who wishes to develop their competence and participate in the Institute community.

Eligibility

Who can join?

Individuals working in any aspect of special processes, including operators, engineers, technicians, inspectors, buyers and support roles. No minimum experience threshold is required, but a genuine interest in special process control and improvement is expected.
Role and Contribution

What Associates do
- Engage with Institute resources, events and communities of practice.
- Build foundational understanding of special process principles, standards and validation techniques.
- Provide user feedback on guidance, training and tools from an early-career or practitioner perspective.

Member (MSPI)

Member status recognises experienced managers or auditors of special processes who carry quality engineering responsibilities and actively support the Institute’s work.

Eligibility

Who can apply?
- Experienced special process managers, engineers or auditors.
- Holders of a defined quality engineering or quality support role for special processes.
- Evidence of sustained involvement in planning, approving, auditing or improving special process controls.
Role and Responsibilities

Contribution to the Institute
- Contribute best practices, guidance notes and case studies for publication.
- Author or co-author technical articles on special process control, validation and improvement.
- Participate in working groups, surveys and consultations that help shape Institute priorities and outputs.

Fellow (FSPI)

Fellowship is awarded to senior managers and recognised subject matter experts in special processes who provide leadership, authoritative guidance and strategic input to the Institute.

- Senior managers with organisational responsibility for multiple special processes or sites.
- Quality managers or technical authorities recognised within their organisation or sector.
- Individuals with a track record of significant impact on special process practice, standards or governance.
Role and Influence

What Fellows contribute
- Provide advanced best practices and high-level technical guidance.
- Author or sponsor articles, position papers and reference material for the Institute.
- Offer subject matter expertise on panels, advisory groups and technical committees.
- Help define the long-term direction, priorities and external positioning of the Institute.

Consultant Fellow (CFSPI)

Consultant Fellow status is reserved for established consultants who specialise in special processes and provide recognised quality and technical advisory services to industry and the Institute.

Eligibility

Who can be a Consultant Fellow?
- Experienced independent or firm-based consultants whose primary focus includes special processes.
- Evidence of delivering quality and/or technical consulting services to multiple organisations.
- References or demonstrable track record of successful special process implementation, recovery or improvement programmes.
Consulting Contribution

How Consultant Fellows support the Institute
- Provide quality and technical consultation services aligned with Institute principles and good practice.
- Support members with independent advice, mentoring and capability development.
- Contribute case studies, tools and training material derived from consulting engagements (appropriately anonymised).
- Offer insight on emerging needs, gaps and risks observed across industry.
