The process has theoretical pace to meet demand. This does not automatically mean the whole line will flow well.
Understand the pace required by customer demand, compare it with actual cycle times, identify bottlenecks and build a practical improvement project. Use the simulator to see how demand, available time, downtime and process cycle times change the ability of a production system to keep pace.

The operation is balanced exactly to demand with very little pace margin. Disruption can quickly create backlog.
The operation cannot keep up with required demand and will become a constraint unless capacity or method changes.
For a serial production line, the slowest effective operation normally constrains achievable throughput.
Imagine customer demand sets a train departure every 21 minutes. That departure interval is the takt. Your production process must deliver one completed unit to the platform before each departure. If the slowest process takes 24 minutes, every train leaves before the next unit is ready and backlog grows. If the process takes 18 minutes, there is approximately 3 minutes of pace margin per unit.
Use net available time for the demand period. Start with scheduled time and remove planned time that is genuinely unavailable for production, such as breaks, planned meetings or planned maintenance. Do not automatically subtract every historical loss — doing so can hide the improvement opportunity.

Capacity gap vs demand
Lead time tells a different story from takt. A line can technically meet takt while still having excessive queues, transport, WIP or waiting. Use takt to assess required pace and use lead-time mapping to improve end-to-end flow.
