Engineering tips
Using surface area correctly
Count only exposed surfacesFor painting, plating or cleaning, exclude faces that are masked, bonded or otherwise not processed.
Keep units consistentAll dimensions for a calculation must use the same linear unit. The result is then expressed in that unit squared.
Real parts may need an allowanceThreads, holes, ribs, texture and complex geometry can increase actual area. CAD-derived surface area is preferred for complex components.
Optional estimator
Coating quantity estimate
Turn the calculated surface area into a simple process estimate. Enter theoretical coverage per litre, number of coats and transfer efficiency.
Enter valid dimensions to estimate coating quantity.
